Lasers have infiltrated every avenue of the medical profession and considered an effective toenail fungus treatment as well. The noveon-laser, as used by some doctors for delicate cataract removal surgery, is being employed by podiatrists for the treatment and eradication of toenail fungus. Lasers can penetrate into the affected area far more efficiently than topical creams and varnishes, with fewer side effects than oral medication. The laser essentially heats the fungus to the point of killing it without burning or effecting surrounding tissue thus leaving nail and skin intact. In 2011, after successful clinical trials the Food and Drug administration cleared two lasers for medical use, one of these is being marketed by Light Age Inc. as a toenail fungus treatment. Though still in the early stages of development, laser treatment for toenail fungus could be the best solution to the smelly problem affecting so many people around the world. But laser surgery comes with a price over $1000, so laser surgery might not be the toenail fungus treatment for everyone.
